INFRARED BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

Abstract

This report covers the radiant intensity of the infrared sky background and the amplitude of the sky gradient. Measurement of the infrared sky background has been a more or less continuous program since July 1953 and a continuous record of the work accomplished can be gleaned from the reports issued, which are included in the reference lists. Both the radiometric data and the gradient data are discussed. The actual data have been presented in Reports No. 1, 2, and 3 preceding this final report and the discussions are based on those data.
