RADIO SET AN/PRC-66 AND RADIO SET AN/PRC-75(XN-1).
Abstract
This report summarizes the results of the first nineteen months of a three year effort to develop two radio sets: AN/PRC-66 for the Air Force and the AN/PRC-75(XN-1) for the Marine Corps. Both battery operated radio sets are completely solid state and will provide ground-to-air communications over any one of the 3500 available channels in the 225 mc to 400 mc frequency range. The AN/PRC-66 radio set, which is designed for manpack operation, will provide two watts average power output, while the AN/PRC-75(XN-1) is designed for hand-held operation with the transducer located on the radio set chassis. The results of the first 19 months of design and development indicate that utilization of the latest integrated and thin film techniques will result in major advances in the area of reliability, weight and size. Both radio sets have a predicted MTBF in excess of 2000 hours and will weigh less than 10 lbs, including battery. Also, the size of these radio sets will be at least 80% smaller than similar equipment, (Radio Set AN/PRC-41), in production and use today. (Author)
