DIODE, MILLIMETER WAVE TYPE MIXER (3.2 MM).

Abstract

Fabrication and testing were completed on 33 of the final experimental mixer diodes. The integral waveguide-diode structure is briefly reviewed along with the description of an exploded view of the final experimental mixer. Some explanatory remarks are also presented on the nature of the welded junction as opposed to a true point contact and a p-n junction. Individual Diode Data Sheets are included which list all of the electrical measurements made. Results are presented which summarize all of the electrical measurements on the 33 units. The average IF VSWR obtained at 2.0 GHz is approximately 2.2:1. The IF bandwidth (VSWR < 3:1) is greater than 1 GHz. The average conversion loss of the 33 units is 8.2 db. Of the 33 units tested, 46% fell in the 8 to 9 db conversion loss range. The significance of this is that the practicality of constructing balanced mixers now appears a certainty. An appendix is included.
