INELASTIC COLUMNS SUBJECTED TO PULSE LOADING

Abstract

This paper reports an investigation of the dynamic behavior of a pin- ended inelastic column subjected to a half-sine displacement pulse at one end applied with small eccentricity. It is shown that an inelastic column, like the elastic column, can support dynamic loads considerably in excess of the static load capacity. It is also shown that within the range of pulse durations studied, the smallest residual deflections generally accompany the largest maximum loads.
