LINEAR CONTROL SYSTEM OPTIMIZATION USING A MODEL-BASED INDEX OF PERFORMANCE.

Abstract

This paper deals with a method of optimizing the free coefficients in the characteristic equation of a linear feedback control system. The optimization is carried out by minimizing an index of performance associated with the system's response to a given test distrubance. Examples are presented for illustration of the salient features of the method. It is also shown by example that systems with closed-loop zeros may be optimized by this method.
