GENERATION OF INFRAMILLIMETRIC WAVES BY MEANS OF ELECTRONIC BEAMS.

Abstract

The objective of this work was to investigate the possibilities of the O-type Carcinotron as a submillimeter wave generator. C.W. tubes at 0.5 mm with power in the range of ten mW and C.W. tubes at 0.4 mm delivering power in the mW level have been made and can now be reproduced. The construction of a 0.35 mm tube with a few hundred microwatts output has also demonstrated the possibility of producing smaller wavelength (minimum wavelength 345 microns). A work on gas spectroscopy is reported which emphasizes the usefulness of the Carcinotron for physical studies in the submillimeter field. (Author)
