THE DEVELOPMENT OF A SMOOTH BORE GUN FOR THE PROJECTION OF BIRD CARCASSES

Abstract

A smooth bore gun apparatus has been designed and developed for the projection of bird carcasses of up to 4 lb weight at stationary targets. The apparatus is intended to provide basic information, and also to provide a testing facility, for the design of aircraft windscreens capable of withstanding the impact of birds during flight. Full details are given of the design basis of the gun and its associated equipment, and of its present performance.
