RANDOM NUMBER GENERATION ON THE CDC 1604

Abstract

A brief history of the development of tables of random numbers is presented. This is followed by an investigation of the generation of uniformly distributed random numbers on the CDC1604 digital computer. Certain congruential relations are examined in order to determine parameters that will produce acceptable random number sequences. Statistical tests of the generated numbers are described and the results of these tests are presented.
