HIGH TEMPERATURE POLYMERS FROM 1,3-DIPOLAR ADDITION REACTIONS.

Abstract

The syntheses of 4,4'-oxydi(N-nitrosophenyl glycine) and perfluoroglutaryl phenylhydrazide chloride, intermediates in the synthesis of a sydnone dipole and a nitrilimine dipole, respectively, were accomplished. A model compound, 1,1,3,3'-tetraphenyl-5,5'-m-phenylene-di-delta-pyrazoline from the reaction of benzoylphenylhydrazide chloride and m-divinylbenzene in the presence of triethylamine was prepared. The polymerization reaction of p-phenylene-3,3'-disydnone with p-benzoquinone afforded poly(2,4,6,8-tetrahydro-4,8-dioxo-2,6-p-phenylenepyrazolo (3,4-f)indazole) which had good thermal stability and an inherent viscosity of 0.6. The polymerization reaction of terephthaloyl phenylhydrazide chloride with m-divinylbenzene gave poly(1,1'-diphenyl-3,3'-p-phenylene-5,5'-m-phenylenedi-delta--pyrazoline). Cross-linking reactions in these polymers containing pyrazole units in the chain can apparently be carried out by heating the polymers at 275 C under reduced pressure. (Author)
