INVERSE RESISTANCE-POWER EFFECT IN QUARTZ CRYSTAL UNITS.

Abstract

Past experience with quartz crystal units, operating on overtone modes, has shown instances where the equivalent resistance increases excessively at low drive levels. This problem arose with CR-55/U and CR-56/U crystal units used in Radio Set AN/ARC-54. An investigation of the cause of this resistance increase was undertaken and experiments tend to show that the difficulty is due to a lack of cleanliness of the resonator. Small quartz and foreign particles attached to active portions of the resonator by means of a sticky film appear to be the greatest cause of the resistance increase. (Author)
