SUMMARY REPORT ON ELASTOHYDRODYNAMIC LUBRICATION AND FAILURE OF ROLLING AND SLIDING CONTACTS.

Abstract

Accomplishments of an investigation of elastohydrodynamic lubrication are briefly summarized. Recent important progress in the field is reviewed. In addition, the relationship between elastohydrodynamic lubrication and the major processes which lead to the failure of rolling and sliding contacts is discussed in detail. Important factors of elastohydrodynamic lubrication which have a strong influence upon fatigue failure or scoring are identified. A delineation of future work in elastohydrodynamic lubrication is included.
