EVALUATION OF THE M-44B ARRESTING GEAR USING DEADLOADS AND AIRCRAFT.

Abstract

A program was conducted to determine the performance characteristics of the M-44B arresting-gear system. A deadload program, conducted over a selective weight range from 17,000 to 80,000 lbs, proved to be highly satisfactory. Testing was continued with the A-4B aircraft at 16,000 lbs, and the A-3A aircraft at 55,000 and 70,000 lbs. The results of the aircraft program indicate the M-44B arresting-gear system should be considered as a replacement for emergency gear now in use. (Author)
