AEROSOL DISSEMINATION ASSESSMENT.

Abstract

Basic performance requirements are given for a chamber assessment aerosol system to be designed, developed and fabricated for evaluating the effectiveness of chemical agent disseminators in the light of aerosol properties of biological interest. Program objectives have been restated on the basis of a 6 month's information survey. Tentative instrument selections and techniques are proposed for further laboratory evaluation as components of the automated assessment system. These include light scattering particle counters and mathematical treatment of decay curves for analysis of size properties. Chemical and physical methods bases upon wet chemistry, spectrophotometry, IR absorption and emission spectroscopy are proposed for quantitative detection agents. Several procedures are reviewed which do not appear applicable to our immediate program needs. Special test equipment is discussed that is now under design or in construction for instrument calibration and sampling studies. (Author)
