DETERMINATION OF METASTABLE POPULATIONS IN AN ARGON GLOW DISCHARGE

Abstract

The absorption of a beam of 8115A radiation by a striated Argon glow discharge was examined to determine the population density of metastable excited atoms in the discharge. Difficulty in obtaining an irradiating beam of sufficient intensity precluded reportable results. The reemission characteristics of the same discharge were examined extensively for the same reason.
