PROGRAM ASTEC (ADVANCED SOLAR TURBO ELECTRIC CONCEPT). PART IV. SOLAR COLLECTOR DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT TASKS. VOL. VII. ENGINEERING DEVELOPMENT GROUND TEST PLAN FOR THE ASTEC SOLAR ENERGY COLLECTOR.

Abstract

A ground test program plan is required to outline, in logical sequence, the initial engineering development tests necessary to ensure the operational, optical, and structural integrity of the full scale ASTEC solar collector before further development proceeds. This document specifies these initial engineering ground tests recommended for testing petals and other critical components of the ASTEC collector. It defines the requirements and provides the individual tests to which the petals, multi-petal assemblies, and associated subassemblies should be subjected. The tests proceed in an orderly sequence to determine adequacy of designs and to show capability of maintaining integrity after exposure to the environments expected during the lifetime of the system. This test plan is only general in nature. The initial engineering development tests can be accomplished in a logical manner to ensure minimum hardware development and program funding risks. (Author)
