RESEARCH ON TOXICITY CHANGES IN THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM. THE RESPONSE OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS TISSUE TO X-IRRADIATION HISTOLOGICAL AND ELECTRONMICROSCOPICAL INVESTIGATION.

Abstract

Acute local necroses comprising all tissue elements were produced by single doses of 10 kr or more; delayed lesions preferring the vascular system resulted from single or fractional doses of 5 kr or less. It seems that the fundamental effect of x-irradiation as indicated by a disorder of the blood-brain barrier and by excessive changes in the volume of cellular tissue constituents, is a disturbance of the membrane functions.
