A LIGHT-WEIGHT AIRCRAFT ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY SYSTEM USING CHANGEOVER CONTACTORS.

Abstract

This report discusses a variation of a previously described two channel system employing changeover contactors. The total generator capacity for such a system may be reduced from twice to four-thirds of the maximum aircraft load if, in the event of the failure of one channel, it is possible to discard one-third of the load without affecting the safety of the aircraft or the success of its mission. The inessential part of the load is connected to a third bus-bar which is automatically disconnected if either generator has an overload in excess of 10%. The basic merits of the original scheme, simplicity and very short interruption times when faults occur, are not affected. (Author)
