SINGLE SIDEBAND QUARTZ CRYSTAL UNITS FOR VHF APPLICATIONS (METAL ENCLOSURES).

Abstract

Parts for the new HC-6 coldweld enclosure with dimensions conforming to the HC-6/U were received and fabricated. The enclosure units are now being tested before employment. Leakage problems with the transistor type coldweld enclosure have developed after high temperature bakeout periods and a decision was made to develop a transistor type coldweld enclosure with compatible glass-to-metal seals. Thermocompression bonding developments resulted in the achievement of some bonds, however, the attachment strength is not adequate. A machine holding fixture for the AT resonator was fabricated and further development will be required before test bonds can be accomplished. The vacuum bakeout chamber was received and preliminary vacuum tests without heat resulted in 0.000005 Torr range. Electrical connections were completed and modifications are now being made to adapt the chamber to the coldweld machine. The resonator design was completed and a group of crystal units was produced for preliminary aging studies. (Author)
