RESEARCH INTO NEW APPROACHES FOR VHF FILTER CRYSTALS.

Abstract

The fabrication of 100 MHz, 5th harmonic mode multi-electrode resonators is discussed. The effects of wafer inhomogeneity on both the Qm and frequency response of individual resonators are given. A relation between the unwanted responses of the unelectroded wafer, frequency-lowering and resonator Qm is also presented. Several large area, single electrode resonators were prepared using conventional fabrication techniques. These 20 MNHz fundamental mode and 60 MHz 3rd harmonic mode resonators will be compared with inverted mesa resonators having the same electrode configuration. The effect of a dielectric tuning layer on the temperature stability of AT-cut quartz resonators is also mentioned. (Author)
