STIFFNESS ANALYSIS OF ELASTO-PLASTIC PLATES.

Abstract

The Prandtl-Reuss flow rule is used as a basic for deriving the constitutive equations for elasto-plastic media with work-hardening. The equations are specialized to the cases of torsion of prismatic bars, plane stress, and plane strain. In the case of plane stress, the direct stiffness method may be extended to provide solutions, and the requisite procedure is outlined. As an example of the type of problem that may be treated, a rectangular plate is considered with an internal crack, showing the distribution of elements and a typical stress-strain curve. A sample of the numerical results is given. The effect of large strains is also discussed.
