FAR INFRARED INTERFEROMETRY: UPPER LIMIT FOR LINEWIDTHS FOR THE PURE ROTATIONAL BAND OF CARBON MONOXIDE.

Abstract

Interferograms of the pure rotational spectrum of carbon monoxide were obtained at pressures of 521, 440, 375, and 254 mm Hg with an absorbing path length of 15 cm. These interferograms were directly analyzed for the average linewidth parameter delta nu. The systematic errors involved in these measurements are discussed, and it is concluded that this value of (delta nu/p) represents an upper limit for this parameter.
