TEMPERATURE-COMPENSATED QUARTZ CRYSTAL UNITS.

Abstract

The experimental models of the compensated crystal units and oscillators have been fabricated, tested, and delivered. All of the 0.5-ppm units equaled or bettered the target stability over temperature and voltage variation. One unit at each frequency was tested and met the stability requirements after shock and vibrttion. Two of the three 5-pp times 10 to the 8th power units were within approximately 1 pp times 10 to the 8th power of meeting the target specification. The third unit met the target specification during compensation but not when the fixed compensating resistors were installed. Time limitation prevented further work. Variation of internal heat dissipation as a result of supply voltage variation appears to be one of the major problems in the high stability units. (Author)
