A NEW LASER POWER SUPPLY,

Abstract

The feasibility of a variety of power supply systems which may be pulsed to deliver the required electrical power to a laser flash tube is considered. Recommendations for a special pile-type battery are made, upon its performance superiority for a minimum advance in technology, as compared to the effectiveness of other systems in an assumed advanced state of development. A specific system is recommended to satisfy the requirements of a proposed flash tube. Output power density of the recommended battery is about 250,000 kw per cubic meter while the recoverable stored electrochemical energy is expected to be more than 75 million joules per cubic meter.
