CHEMI-IONIZATION IN THE REACTION BETWEEN C2F4 AND ATOMIC NITROGEN-ATOMIC OXYGEN MIXTURES.

Abstract

The chemi-ion concentration observed in an atomic N-O mixture is increased by some two orders of magnitude in the presence of C2F4. This phenomenon has been discovered and studied in two Wood-Bonhoeffer-type electrical-discharge flow systems at pressure of 1 to 4 Torr and a temperature of about 300 K. In one system a Langmuir probe monitors total ion concentrations; in the other a mass spectrometer identifies individual chemi-ion masses.
