CATALYZED ENHANCEMENT OF CHEMI-IONIZATION IN ATOMIC N AND O MIXTURES.

Abstract

It has been found that halocarbon and hydrocarbon molecules can catalytically enhance ionization levels in atomic N-O afterglows. It is shown that this phenomenon can be attributed to an increase in the concentration of excited N2 and/or NO molecules. It is possible that similar enhancement phenomena can increase the ionization level of re-entry wakes. (Author)
