STUDY AND INVESTIGATION LEADING TO THE DESIGN OF A VARIABLE TIME DELAY TRAVELING-WAVE TUBE.

Abstract

This is an interim report describing progress on a program to investigate the design of variable time delay traveling-wave tubes with the objective of a 50 nsec variable delayver the frequency band 500 to 1500 Mc. The results of measurements on two delay lines, type MA 2018, constructed under this rogram are presented, together with the results of measurements on a related tube type MA 2021 developed on a Navy Contract. The results demonstrate the broad band capabilities of the tube and the relatively small variation of insertnoss with l. Insertion losses of less than 10 dB over the full delay ngehave been obtained. The results are discussed and the future program outlined. (Author)
