THE BHATNAGAR-GROSS-KROOK EQUATION AS AN APPROXIMATION OF THE BOLTZMANN EQUATION. PART II - COMPARATIVELY FEASIBLE APPLICATIONS.

Abstract

In a case of rarefied gas dynamics, where the collision effect is a minor perturbation factor in the result, the B-G-K equation may be a moderate approximation of the Boltzmann equation if we treat the equation properly by paying attention to the following: Since the collision factor is minor in the equation the zeroth approximation of the solution is obtained by solving the Boltzmann equation without the collision integral; it depends predominantly on the initial and boundary conditions, and may deviate considerably from the Maxwell distribution function.
