HIGH ENERGY CRYSTALLINE LASER MATERIALS.

Abstract

The fluorescence of Cr(3+) in GdAlO3 shows a line shape and splitting due to a ferromagnetic exchange interaction of = +2.1/cm with each of the surrounding Gd(3+) ions. Theoretical calculation of the density of states due to this exchange interaction between the ground states predicts a line shape in reasonable agreement with experiment. (Author)
