DESIGN OF DIC 10-447 ROTARY JOINT.

Abstract

The DIC Model 10-447 Rotary Joint was developed to meet the requirements of Scientific-Atlanta Specification TS-J297-3. The basic design chosen consisting of a TM sub 01 circular waveguide used as the connecting transmission line between two rectangular input waveguides. This type of rotary joint will operate reliably at the specified average and peak power levels of 50 kw and 200 kw respectively, with a maximum VSWR of 1.1:1 over the 2950-3050 MHz band. The TM sub 01 mode will provide a radial-symmetry configuration about the axis of rotation, in addition to low loss and minimal heating. The waveguide diameter and length and the circular-to-rectangular waveguide transition design were calculated so as to propagate the TM sub 01 mode and minimize mode impurity. (Author)
