INSTRUMENTATION FOR SPACE RESEARCH,

Abstract

In general, instruments on satellites are designed to collect information on three subjects: force fields, electromagnetic radiations, and corpuscles. Future satellites will add one more objective: taking pictures of the earth, the sky, or other celestial bodies. Indirectly, all of them provide data on power supplies and on the operation of instruments under space conditions. The instruments of satellites launched during 1958 are explained and listed in this report, and some of the Sputnik instruments which deserve special mention are discussed.
