KINETICS OF DECOMPOSITION OF SOLID OXIDIZERS.

Abstract

The very fast thermal decomposition kinetics of solid fluorine oxidizers are being studied with the objective of correlating such kinetic data with sensitivity and molecular structure. The time and temperature regimes of a detonation process are being simulated isothermally by heating a platinum ribbon, upon which the sample is thinly coated, with a capacitor discharge. A time of flight mass spectrometer permits analysis of gaseous decomposition products to be made every 50 microseconds. Efforts continued upon instrumental modifications and technique refinements. Preliminary pyrolysis experiments were performed and demonstrate that the present apparatus operates satisfactorily for qualitative studies. (Author)
