EXPERIMENTAL AND DESIGN STUDIES FOR TURBO-RAMJET COMBINATION ENGINE VOLUME V - COMBUSTION-TEST INSTALLATION.

Abstract

The tests conducted on the combustion chamber model of a turbofan-ramjet combination engine are detailed. The layout of the models and the test benches on which the models were installed to conduct the tests are described. The benches are: (1) the 15,000-horsepower bench at Les Gatines on which a combustion chamber incorporating a pilot burner was defined and developed and a procedure for test data analysis was established; and (2) the K3 test bench at Saclay where the combustion chamber defined on the bench at Les Gatines was tried in simulated flight conditions at a Mach number varying from 1.5 to 4 and at altitudes reaching 100,000 ft.
