RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REDUCING GEMINI B AGE VANS AND EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS.

Abstract

The Gemini B AGE portions of the Manned Orbiting Laboratory Pre-Phase 1 Study Program documents have been reviewed. A detailed analysis has been made and a scheme for a considerable reduction in the number of vans and equipment required is presented here. The proposed configurations are shown in two figures and two tables. Figures 1 and 2 present a scheme for reducing the number of Gemini B AGE vans from three (OGE van No. 1, OGE van No. 2, and MGE van No. 1) to two (OGE van No. 1 and OGE/MGE van No. 2). This has been accomplished by: (1) eliminating redundant equipment (in vans 1, 2, and 3, the payload control room, and data transmission/instrumentation room); (2) regrouping equipment and rack configurations; (3) reducing excessive recording requirements; and (4) by using existing Titan 3 data transmission capabilities for transmission of control and monitor signals. Major equipment configuration changes recommended are summarized.
