RESEARCH ON RELAXATION PROCESSES IN MAGNETIC MATERIALS.

Abstract

The properties of magnetic material having a nonuniform saturation magnetization are reviewed, in particular their high field-magnetization curve and their longitudinal, differential susceptibility at microwave frequencies. An investigation of the high-field magnetization curve of porous, polycrystalline Yttrium-Iron garnet is described. The results of a theoretical calculation of the transverse suceptibility of magnetically inhomogeneous materials are presented. In these preliminary calculations it has been assumed that the inhomogeneity is 'coarse grain' and that the spin-wave resonances are infinitely narrow. Experimental work concerning the instability threshold in dense, polycrystalline Yttrium-Iron garnet for parallel and perpendicular pumping is described. (Author)
