ANALYTIC CONTINUATION OF GRAVITY USING ORTHOGONAL FUNCTIONS.

Abstract

The expediency of orthogonal series development in downward continuation of equidistant airborne gravity profiles is studied. Two computer programs were generated for downward (and upward) continuation of gravity anomaly fields using two different two dimensional trigonometric series developments. They are modifiable up to any degree N, 9lrof series development. The programs were applied to fitting two free air anomaly fields in Ohio and in Germany, where n, m was < or - 4. Upward continuation of these fields is considered for elevations 1 km < h < or - 20 km. Optimal use and spacing of the profiles for downward continuation is discussed. (Author)
