RE-ENTRY PHYSICS RESEARCH.

Abstract

High temperature measurements of the absolute emission intensity of the total radiation in the wavelength interval between 2500A and 8000A resulting from the combination of atomic oxygen and carbon monoxide have been completed. Additional experiments on the temperature dependence of the radiative combination of atomic oxygen and carbon monoxide, of the radiative combination of oxygen atoms and of transistions of molecular oxygen are described. Measurements of the induction period preceding formation of measurable quantities of CO2 in shock heated CO<-O2-Ar mixtures at low densities were completed and CO2-transmission-emission experiments were in progress. Three technical notes on shock tube auxiliary equipment used in the above studies are summarized.
