A SYSTEMS DESCRIPTION OF THE DODCO RE-ENTRY CONTROL AND DISPLAY LOGIC AS UTILIZED ON THE AFFDL AEROSPACE SIMULATOR.
Abstract
The results obtained and conclusions reached as a result of research efforts originating in 1959 on lifting re-entry systems have been collected and summarized in a form suited for man-machine simulation study. A new, closed form method for predicting re-entry range footprint capability is described, and complete equation sets and flow charts combining this Ground Area Attainable (GAA) predictor with the DODCO target seeking, override type re-entry control logic are presented. Interface data required to implement these equations on the AFFDL aerospace simulator are included, together with conversion-scaling factors for all parameters involved. Two software system packages for the C-820 system, one a symbolic assembler-interpreter-simulator and the other the DESC (DODCO Executive Simulator Compiler System) are described. These programming tools may be used for any programming task within the capabilities of the C-820 computer. The DESC system permits use of a FORTRAN type source language for programming the C-820 computer, and permits an IBM 7094 computer to write and 'debug' programs for the C-820 system. A list of selected references covering various phases of re-entry dynamics is included.
