EVALUATION OF CHARACTERISTICS AFFECTING ATTAINMENT OF OPTIMUM PROPERTIES OF ABLATIVE NOZZLE COMPONENTS.

Abstract

During the third quarter of work, the significant physical and mechanical properties of the selected carbon and silica fabric reinforced resin composites were determined and correlated to ablation performance. Fabrication of cylinders for evaluation of tape wrapping variables was completed and the significant properties of the virgin composite were measured. Equations were developed to predict as-wrapped density, shrinkage, and weight loss during charring for a carbon fabric reinforced phenolic prepreg. (Author)
