CONSTANT OBLIQUE FIELD ELECTROSTATIC GENERATOR.

Abstract

The objective of the investigation under this contract is to prove the feasibility of a vacuum insulated, brushless, constant oblique field generator. As a step toward this goal, a preliminary model with a design goal of 100 Newtons/sq m is to be built and tested. A final model or prototype is to be fabricated which will have a normalized power of 700 Newtons/sq m as its design goal. As the program is to develop an entirely new design, the emphasis is naturally concentrated on geometry and circuitry. Improvements in the techniques of vacuum insulation are considered less important. Determination of optimum size of the generator components is, therefore, of major importance. At the end of the previous quarter, a number of component tests had been run and the preliminary model consisting of a 9-inch rotor and stator had been completed. To gain a greater understanding of the characteristics of each of the many possible configurations of rectifiers and electrodes, the small-scale experiments have continued concurrent with experiments employing the preliminary model.
