EVALUATION OF SPECIAL MODULATION TECHNIQUES. VOLUME II. APPENDICES A,C,D,E, AND F.

Abstract

The purpose of this report is to determine lower bounds on the binary error probability of the Kathryn HF Modem caused only by the frequency-selective fading of the HF transmission medium. Thus, the effects of additive noise and pilot tone instabilities are not included. A more rigorous analysis including all types of system disturbances appears possible but was omitted due to time limitations. It is interesting to note, however, that preliminary analysis indicates frequency-selective fading is likely to be the major limitation for the not unusual multipath spreads of one millisecond or greater when receiver-grated time-guard bands are not used.
