RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF CATHODOLUMINESCENT PHOSPHOR WITH EXCITATION-TIME-DEPENDENT COLOR.

Abstract

Emphasis has been placed upon developing an electron-beambarrier screen which consists of a layer of material opaque to cathode rays but transparent to visible and ultraviolet light in order to obtain maximum excitation-time-dependent color for moving target indicator. Three different types of barriers, namely, (1) a thin glass plate (2) a glass frit formed over the long decay phosphor and (3) an evaporated film of silica has been investigated. Optimum screen weight of the phosphor layers have been determined. Tubes have been manufactured using screens and barriers showing the greatest promise of success in attaining the objective of this program. (Author)
