BROADBAND HARMONIC GENERATORS.

Abstract

The design goals for broadband, solid state, Ku band tripler and the general circuit requirements to obtain these goals are presented. Some of the problems encountered in pretuning the first basic tripler and structure modifications to relieve some of these problems are discussed. Up to 14% efficiency has been noted with tripler action at discrete frequencies. Two diodes have produced a form of parametric operation that resulted in 12.52 GHz output (input frequency 5.012 GHz) with a conversion efficiency of 25%. The all coaxial multiplier utilizing interdigital filters have given 600 MHz output bandwidth with greater than 20% efficiency for (16.7% efficiency the bandwidth was 900 MHz). The separate filter characteristics and circuit modifications to improve these characteristics are discussed. Methods being utilized to improve the match to the diode are presented. The design of a balanced diode tripler and some of the design criteria are recorded. (Author)
