AUDITORY FUNCTION OF THE HEARING IMPAIRED.

Abstract

The overall goal of the project is to investigate the effects of hearing deficits, of varying types and degrees, on the discrimination for speech in critical Air Force listening environments. The specific aims of the project have been: (1) the development of test procedures for assessing the effects of hearing impairment on receptive communicative efficiency in difficult listening environments; (2) the development of valid methods for detecting the individual whose hearing has deteriorated to the point where he has become a hazard to himself and others because of reduced communicative capacity; (3) the investigation of techniques for optimizing the listening situations represented by typical Air Force environments.
