FORECASTING THE ONSET OF WIDESPREAD RAIN DURING THE SOUTHEAST ASIA SUMMER MONSOON,

Abstract

The development of an objective method for forecasting the onsets of precipitation episodes during the summery monosoon season in Southeast Asia is described. The system is baded upon the hypothesized interaction between the middle latitude westerlies and the tropical monosoonal circulation. Results of a verification experiment are presented together with suggestions for utilizing the procedure in the scheduling of weather-sensitive operations in the area. (Author)
