ATTITUDE REFERENCE SYSTEM STUDY: STELLAR OBSERVATION.

Abstract

This report discussed the feasibility of obtaining satellite attitude information using stellar observation. The problem associated with telescope configuration, detector sensitivities, shaft encoding, and system accuracies are considered. Available detectors and shaft encoders are analyzed for use in an attitude reference system built at LMSC; this system is described and its performance evaluated. Recommendations for improvements in the laboratory model and for future systems are made. (Author)
