A WIND-TUNNEL AIR-WAKE SURVEY OF A 1/144-SCALE MODEL AIRCRAFT CARRIER TO EVALUATE SIDE-MOUNTED HORIZONTAL AIR DEFLECTORS,

Abstract

A model of the proposed CVA-67 aircraft carrier was tested in the Subsonic Wind Tunnel to determine the aerodynamic effects of horizontal airflow deflectors or wings mounted on the side of the hull in the vicinity of the landing ramp. Results show that, within the range of variables tested, the effects of the wings on the air wake in the aircraft landing approach zone were minor. (Author)
