DESIGN ALLOWABLES ON ANNEALED TITANIUM SHEET.

Abstract

A program to develop Mechanical Property Design Allowables on several annealed titanium sheet alloys is described. The test program described is being performed within the guidelines of the MIL Hndbk-5 Committee. The Procurement of test materials in the desired thickness ranges and number of production heats has been explored and a procurement order has been issued for 50 percent of the test material desired. The test materials and thickness ranges of interest are: (1) Ti 4Al-3Mo-1V-0.032 inch through 0.063 inch through 0.300 inch, and 1.00 inch through 1.50 inch; (2) Ti 13V-11Cr-3Al - 0.032 inch through 0.063 inch, 0.250 inch through 0.300 inch, and 1.00 inch through 1.50 inch and, (3) Ti 6Al-6V-2Sn - 0.250 inch through 0.300, 0.500 inch through 0.630 inch, and 1.00 inch through 1.50 inch. Existing mechanical properties data for the three annealed titanium sheet alloys has been solicited. Material certification tensile test data has been requested from the two major titanium producers, and mechanical properties data has been requested from two Government-sponsored data information centers.
