MEAN LEAD TIME (M/LT),

Abstract

This study has the intended purpose of providing the manager a better estimate of lead times for new items where the lead time for the particular item is unknown. The method used is based on the assumption that items with similar names, designed for similar application, will require similar lead times. The output of the program is an average lead time for established stock list items of similar nomenclature and application. The results of this study indicate about 30% of the sub-families can be processed with a shorter lead time and about 10% require a longer lead time than present policy affords. In terms of items, 12% of the items will have significantly shorter lead times and 7% will have significantly larger ones. (Author)
