GOALS OF PROCUREMENT RULES,

Abstract

During the development of any new set of inventory procurement rules 'management' is required to select a measure of ineffectiveness, the minimization of which will be the 'Goal' of the rules. However in this requirement management is usually given few choices and no description of the consequences of each alternative. This paper analyzes the problem of the creation and selection of a Goal, provides a wide range of alternatives with statements of their relative merits and consequences, and reveals how several Goals can be 'accommodated' simultaneously instead of the system being vulnerably committed to one.
