COMPARISON OF YIELD FOR ZONE MELTING AND PROGRESSIVE FREEZING.

Abstract

The conditions under which the yield of purified product is identical for progressive freezing and zone melting have been determined. When the distribution coefficient is less than one, the yield of progressive freezing is increased when the amount of material rejected after each operation is lowered. When the distribution coefficient is greater than one, however, the usual zone melting conditions result in a greater yield than is possible with progressive freezing. (Author)
